Fermathron Injection

Fermathron injections are designed to reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis in joints. Fermathron is a gel that is directly injected to the joint where pain is perceived. Here it takes on the role of synovial fluid, thereby reducing pain. In this way, drug use can be avoided or reduced. Fermathron injections can be repeated every three months.

Fermathron is a thick and smooth gel made based on a substance that is found in the various joints in the human body. It is responsible for the lubrication and the smooth movements of joints. Fermathron is designed to help those suffering from joint pain due to osteoarthritis. A Fermathron injection is sufficient to reduce the pain and increase mobility over a period of about 6 months in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip.

Preparing for the treatment The treatment takes place during a consultation at OCP Medical Center. The treatment is performed by an anesthesiologist of OCP Medical Center. You do not need to fast before this treatment. You should arrive at the clinic fifteen minutes before the treatment.. An employee of OCP Medical Center guides you to a waiting area. Before the procedure starts, you will be picked up by a nurse and / or doctor and taken to the adjacent treatment room. The treatment During the treatment you are in an outpatient treatment room. Fermathron is injected in the affected joint, with a needle. The treatment takes about 5 minutes.

After the treatment After the treatment you can sit quietly in the rest area next to the treatment room. Usually people hardly experience side effects from the treatment and you can go home five minutes after the treatment. Possible side effects As a result of the injection, there may be some post-operative pain and slight swelling may occur. This usually disappears 2 or 3 days after the treatment. You can take pain medication. This can be your own pain medication or paracetamol according to the dosage on the package leaflet. Based on the cause of your pain, your specialist will assess if a physical treatment is necessary. Based on the medical history the necessity of additional tests will be decided.
