When you are unhappy with the shape and size of your ears, an ear correction (also called an otoplasty) can be an option. The most performed procedure for the ears is for the position of the ears. Ear lobes can also be corrected, large ear lobes can be made smaller, while ear lobes with a different shape can be adjusted.
The procedure takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity and type of ear correction.
This procedure is done under local anesthesia. You will not feel any pain during the procedure.
You can go home after the procedure and 3-5 days after the procedure any sutures are removed.

Typically, otoplasty patients experience only minimal discomfort, since these procedures are not usually complex and pain receptors in the ear are not plentiful.
Upon the first contact with our Plastic Surgery department, you will be in contact with your own, dedicated Patient Coordinator. During the initial consultation with at OCP, you will discuss everything related to the procedure: which method will be used, expectations of the result, possible risks and aftercare. The Plastic Surgeon will also take pictures for your medical file, which is securely stored.
The Procedure
Surgical techniques are used to address the concern, which may include to create or increase the anti-helical fold (just inside the rim of the ear), to reduce enlarged conchal cartilage (the largest and deepest concavity of the external ear), to adjust the ear lobe or make other adjustments to the shape or form of the ear. Incisions for otoplasty / ear correction are generally made on the back surface of the ear. If incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, efforts are made to hide them as much as possible.
Anesthesia
The procedure is done under local anesthesia. You will not feel anything during the procedure.

An ear correction is a surgical procedure which will be done in a sterile environment. After the procedure
The Plastic Surgeon will assess your condition after the procedure and you can go home after the procedure. The pain after the procedure differs for each patient, but Paracetamol will suffice in most cases. The recovery other than that will be painless. As with any other cosmetic surgery the treated area needs time to heal. You will need to cool the treated area after the procedure to reduce swelling and bruising. You will get instructions about how to do this.
Results
The final results of an ear correction are visible after one month. The result is permanent.
Risks of an Ear Surgery
As with most cosmetic surgeries, there is a risk of an allergic reaction to the anesthesia, disinfectants or plasters. Also, even though the procedure is done under sterile conditions, the area could be infected. Chances to this are very small though. Sometimes patients experience a disturbed healing of the wound or post-operative bleeding. This does not have to cause any negative consequences for the result of the procedure.
