The Lumenis LightSheer is considered the gold standard in laser hair hair removal. The energy that is emitted from the laser hair removal machine is only absorbed by the pigment cells in the hair. The skin and surrounding tissue of the hair follicle do not absorb the energy beam of the laser. When the laser beam reaches the pigment in the hair follicle, the energy of the laser is converted into warmth. The hair shaft and bulb get damaged, so that the hair can not grow anymore.
The Lumenis LightSheer uses two special technologies to minimize pain during and after the treatment:
- High-Speed Integrated Technology (HIT) uses a unique vacuum mechanism that activates the skin’s tactile and pressure receptors to inhibit the transmission of pain.
- ChillTip mproves patient comfort by cooling the skin prior to treatment and continuously cooling it throughout the treatment.

You can typically expect to see results after your first session, but results vary.
Not everybody will see immediate results after laser hair removal. Hair color and skin color are an important factor. Dark hair contains more melanine. And because the melanin absorbs the laser energy, laser hair removal works better in people with dark brown or black hair. What should I expect after the treatment?
The first hours after the laser hair removal treatment, you might experience some redness in the treated area. You can reduce this by cooling the area as much as possible. In rare cases small blisters might appear in the treated area, which will disappear within a few days. Directly after the treatment, you may continue with your normal daily activities. You must avoid sun exposure for up to 6 weeks after the treatment. Sometimes thicker hair might appear in the treated area. These are not new hairs, but hairs that were damaged by the laser. They will fall out by themselves, but you may also choose to shave them after 2 days.
