With the school year half over, many parents are thinking ahead to their child’s future. Admission to an international school, university, or other learning institution is often the next step in a child’s education. Psycho-Educational assessments pave the way for students to meet eligibility requirements or make necessary adjustments. At OCP Medical, we are pleased to introduce our renowned specialist from Finland, Mrs. Vappu Labacci. She is a Clinical Psychologist and licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Pearson Clinical (USA), which is the institution in charge of the tests and reports. Through special psycho-educational assessments, you gain the knowledge needed to proceed forward. Let’s take a look at the testing in more depth.
Several intelligence tests are available for administration by the clinical psychologist. The one in which the participant will take depends on the person’s age. The tests are as follows:
WPPSI-IV: This test, referred to as the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, is for younger children between the ages of 2 years and 6 months and 7 years old. It is a full-scale IQ test.
WISC-V: This is a full-scale IQ test called the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children designed for generally for children between the ages of 6 and 16 years of age.
WAIS-IV: The Weschsler Adult Intelligence Scale is also a full-scale IQ test designed for older youth and adults.
Aside from testing intelligence, the psycho-educational testing includes behavioral, neurological, and educational testing. Some of the other offered tests are:
KTEA-3 Test: The Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement assesses a student’s achievement in key academic areas such as reading, language, and math. In addition, it measures the student in the 8 learning disability areas.
NEPSY-2: This stands for A Developmental NEuroPSYchological Assessment. The test allows psychologists to test children ranging in age from 3 to 16 years old. The test is comprised of 6 domains which include areas such as executive function and memory which are not picked up on general intelligence tests.
CMS: The Children’s Memory Scale gives insight to how memory and learning are related to the child’s cognitive ability.
Special testing is administered for students exhibiting learning difficulties in areas such as reading, speech, dyslexia, and so on.
At OCP Medical, we provide an experienced clinical psychologist to administer the psycho-educational testing. These tests will give parents an objective measurement of their child’s overall functioning ability, as well as intelligence level. The assessments are constructed to highlight the participant’s strengths and weaknesses so intervention strategies can by employed.
