Arthritis is an inflammation in one or multiple joints that causes redness, swellings, pain and sometimes loss of mobility. There are multiple types of arthritis. Arthritis can be caused by a chronic breakdown and by joint deceases like rheumatoid arthritis. It can also be a symptom of other deceases, such as connective tissue disorders. Symptoms are for example, joint pain (arthralgia), swollen joints, morning stiffness and a limited mobility. The skin around arthritis can be warm and red. The joint can be sensitive and painful during movements.
Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammation around the connective tissues in the whole body. This disease often appears symmetrical and affects mostly the fingers, wrists, toes, ankles and elbows: all joints which are surrounded by a capsule.
A difficult part of living with rheumatoid arthritis is the pain. Medication can help, but they do not always make the pain go away completely. Most people with rheumatoid arthritis experience frequent and/or ongoing pain that affects their outlook on life and can lead to depression and anger.
Rheumatoid arthritis can not be treated, but symptoms can be reduced.
